Royal Canin has renewed a multi-year partnership with the University of Tennessee Veterinary Obesity Center to combat rising obesity rates in cats and dogs through research, clinical care, and education. Originally established in 2020, the center focuses on improving pet health through evidence-based obesity prevention and treatment strategies. Pet obesity remains a significant concern, with about one in two dogs overweight and associated with shorter lifespans.
The UTVOC provides subsidized treatment for client-owned pets, enabling accessible care while generating valuable research data. Results from enrolled animals show that roughly two-thirds achieved clinically significant weight loss, including nearly half of cats and about 80% of dogs. The partnership also supports Veterinary education through training programs, publications, and professional resources. By combining clinical research with nutritional expertise, both organizations aim to advance effective weight management strategies and improve the overall quality of life for pets.
