Schwarzman Animal Medical Center (AMC) has completed an 83,000-square-foot, $125 million expansion and renovation, marking the largest transformation in the hospital’s 115-year history and its first major upgrade in 60 years. The four-year project modernizes the world’s largest Veterinary teaching hospital and New York City’s only Level 1 Veterinary trauma center. Final construction phases added a new Emergency Room and expanded facilities for Cardiology, Radiology, Ophthalmology, Neurology, and Internal Medicine.
Earlier phases tripled surgical capacity with five new operating rooms, doubled overall patient capacity, and introduced a state-of-the-art ICU, Medical-Surgical Unit, Avian and Exotic Pet Medicine service, and Education and Conference Center. Remarkably, AMC remained open 24/7 throughout construction. Founded in 1910, AMC now employs more than 140 veterinarians across 20 specialties and sees nearly 57,000 patients annually, continuing its mission of advanced care, education, research, and charitable service.
