A newly passed legislative package brings significant changes to federal student loan programs, impacting current and future veterinary borrowers. The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) has launched a webpage, Student Loan Changes: What You Need to Know, summarizing key updates. These include new limits on unsubsidized federal loans, modifications to income-driven repayment plans, the phase-out of Grad PLUS loans, restrictions on Parent PLUS loans, and the continuation of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
The AVMA is also developing additional tools to help Veterinary professionals navigate loan options and repayment strategies. Addressing student debt remains a core AVMA priority. The organization continues to collaborate with other stakeholders in the Veterinary field to create resources and advocate for public policies aimed at reducing the financial burden on Veterinary graduates. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to ensure economic sustainability and career viability within the Veterinary profession.
