The Texas Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners (TBVME) has launched a new online licensing portal, enabling Veterinary professionals in Texas to easily apply for or renew licenses and allowing consumers to access licensing and disciplinary information. This development follows the Sunset Advisory Commission’s 2023 recommendation for TBVME to upgrade its outdated licensing database, with the Texas Legislature approving $1.1 million for the project.

According to TBVME Executive Director Brittany Sharkey, the portal represents a significant improvement, streamlining the licensing process by reducing manual paperwork and expediting license issuance. Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) Executive Director Courtney Arbour highlighted the portal’s role in enhancing customer service and data transparency. Under SB 1414, TBVME will operate under TDLR oversight until 2027, serving as an advisory board while TDLR provides policy and administrative guidance. After four years, TBVME will regain its status as an independent agency.
