The Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo has officially received full accreditation from the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), marking its transition from a developing program to a nationally recognized institution. The milestone follows a decade of dedicated effort that began in 2015, involving collaboration among students, faculty, and staff. Accreditation confirms that the program meets national standards in animal care, communication, and client service—qualifying graduates for professional recognition.
Texas Tech leaders, including Chancellor Dr. Tedd Mitchell and Dean Guy Loneragan, emphasized teamwork and perseverance, noting that many initially doubted the school’s success. Amarillo Mayor Cole Stanley hailed the achievement as a major win for the community and higher education. In addition to AVMA accreditation, the school earned two commendations for its partnerships with Veterinary practitioners and its progress-measurement systems. University officials say this accomplishment marks just the beginning of continued growth and excellence.
