The University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine has launched a major expansion of its Veterinary medical complex, aimed at addressing the national shortage of veterinarians while advancing animal care, research, and education. Announced by Dean Dr. Mark Stetter, the project will increase the student body from 600 to 800, helping meet demand as 2,000 applicants vie annually for only 150 spots. As California’s land-grant institution, UC Davis sees the expansion as part of its responsibility to serve the state by training more veterinarians and improving access to care.
Over the next decade, the project will add a Veterinary education pavilion, primary care and equine hospitals, a cancer center, spay-neuter clinic, and raptor center. An early milestone, the All Species Imaging Center, has already opened. Once complete, the expanded facilities will enable the school to treat about 20,000 additional animals annually, while supporting cutting-edge research and specialized clinical services.
