Dr. Mark Mamula, a Yale School of Medicine immunologist, is revolutionizing cancer treatment for dogs with a new vaccine developed through his company, Therajan. Currently in clinical trials, the vaccine has shown promise in attacking, delaying, and even curing certain forms of cancer in dogs. Given that one in four dogs will develop cancer—with breeds like golden retrievers at higher risk—this breakthrough offers new hope to pet owners.
Administered in two doses three weeks apart, the vaccine is delivered through a mobile Veterinary van that travels to locations in New York and Connecticut. Pet owners have come from as far as New Hampshire and Philadelphia for the treatment. Dr. Lindsay Thalheim, a local veterinarian involved in the trials, emphasized the importance of early detection for better outcomes. One dog, Tybee from Preston, received the vaccine on camera, with his owner expressing deep gratitude for the opportunity to extend her pet’s life.
