Hawke, a seven-year-old horse, sustained severe fetlock injuries during an emergency evacuation amid the Alexander Mountain Fire. After initial stabilization by on-site veterinarians, he underwent advanced treatment at CSU’s Johnson Family Equine Hospital, including arthroscopic surgery and innovative pain management using a neurostimulator. The hospital’s multidisciplinary team provided comprehensive care, ensuring weight distribution across all four legs to prevent complications like laminitis.
A holistic, “whole-horse approach” guided his treatment, focusing on both mental and physical recovery. The hospital leveraged cutting-edge technologies such as MRI, CT scans, and neurosurgical research, highlighting its commitment to exceptional Veterinary care. Now continuing recovery at HeartSong Equine Rehabilitation, Hawke has shown significant improvement, benefiting from ongoing support from CSU and HeartSong teams.
