On May 9, 2025, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin signed HB 2303 and SB 921 into law, creating the Large Animal Veterinary Grant Program to address a critical shortage of large animal veterinarians in the state. The program, set to launch by July 1, 2026, will provide $110,000 grants to four veterinarians chosen by the State Veterinarian. These funds aim to help expand Veterinary services and support job creation in underserved areas.
The initiative is designed to increase or stabilize the number of large animal vets across Virginia, ensuring better care for livestock and agricultural communities. State Senator Travis Hackworth, who introduced the legislation, joined Youngkin at the bill signing. The program highlights growing concerns about Veterinary shortages and represents a strategic investment in rural and agricultural infrastructure.
