Work towards the future College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) at Arkansas State University (A-State) is progressing, with the American Veterinary Medical Association’s (AVMA) Council on Education recently conducting a consultative visit. Dr. Heidi Banse, the new dean of CVM, reported that the visit involved a review of facilities, policies, procedures, and personnel. Following this visit, the next step is a comprehensive site visit to determine the college’s readiness.

Banse is focused on building the leadership team, developing policies, and collaborating with clinical affiliates. The Arkansas Board of Higher Education has approved the plan for the CVM, which includes recruiting additional faculty. The CVM team, including Banse and senior advisors, is currently operating from Ellis House, with plans for a dedicated CVM building and renovated animal science facilities. The new CVM will benefit students and the regional community by providing in-state Veterinary training and addressing local workforce needs, ensuring a steady supply of Veterinary graduates in Arkansas.
