A juvenile cheetah named Winston at Zoo Miami is recovering after surgery to repair a leg fracture, as confirmed by zoo spokesman Ron Magill. Winston is believed to have fractured his rear left leg while running in his habitat, although the injury was not witnessed. The zoo staff discovered the injury on the morning of July 27 and immediately transported Winston to the animal hospital. Radiographs confirmed the severity of the fracture, leading to surgery on July 31.
During the procedure, two metal plates were used to stabilize the fracture, and Winston was placed in a full leg cast. Post-surgery evaluations have shown that the fracture is healing well, though the recovery process will be closely monitored over the next several weeks. Winston remains in a recovery enclosure with a new cast, and his healing process is expected to take another six to eight weeks.
