The St. Tammany Parish no-kill animal shelter in Lacombe, Louisiana, is over capacity following an influx of animals during and after a recent storm. The shelter is struggling to accommodate the large number of dogs and cats, putting many at risk of euthanasia if they are not adopted or fostered soon. Shelter Director Rob Bremer emphasizes the challenges of overcrowding, such as resource guarding and food aggression among animals.
The shelter has issued a “Mayday” call, indicating that dogs that have been there the longest are at the highest risk. Volunteer Corbin Andera urges community members to adopt, noting the special need for love and attention these dogs require. To encourage adoptions, some fees are being sponsored this week. The shelter invites residents to visit and adopt during open hours or contact the Programs Team for more information.
