Cornell University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and NY Farm Net have partnered with Rural Minds to launch a free online mental health and suicide prevention course. This course is designed to provide practical strategies and resources for rural Americans to address mental health challenges. Adam Howell, Outreach Director for NY Farm Net, highlighted the higher suicide rates in rural communities, which are 65% higher than in urban areas, due to isolation and stress. Farming, a particularly isolated profession, often lacks interaction and easy access to mental health services.

The course aims to assist individuals experiencing mental health struggles and to help others recognize signs of distress in those around them. This initiative addresses the unique challenges faced by rural populations, offering support in navigating mental health concerns in these communities.
