At the Veterinary Hospital Managers Association’s (VHMA) “Racing toward Success” Annual Conference in Charlotte, NC, VHMA announced the launch of a new certification program: the Certified Veterinary Office Manager (CVOM). This program is designed for Veterinary management professionals focused on administrative tasks and team leadership, complementing the existing Certified Veterinary Practice Manager (CVPM) certification. The CVOM certification will cover areas like leadership, human resources, law, marketing, and financial management.
Candidates must have one year of experience in a Veterinary practice, complete specific tasks, and submit two letters of recommendation. The application process opens in early 2025. To develop the CVOM, VHMA conducted a thorough needs assessment with input from a Task Force of 17 experts and a survey of 250 managers. This research-driven initiative aims to meet the growing demand for specialized office management skills in the Veterinary field, with recertification required every two years.
