Dr. Becky Morrow, founder of Frankie’s Friends Veterinary clinic and an educator at Penn State and the University of Florida, combines her passion for animal care with teaching. With 26 years of experience, including 17 in shelter medicine, Morrow trains veterinarians and assistants to refine their surgical skills. Her clinic in New Kensington recently hosted a two-day spay and neuter training, emphasizing high-quality, high-volume procedures tailored for shelter environments.
The training introduced efficient techniques, such as smaller incisions for spaying female cats, reducing surgery time and enhancing safety. Morrow demonstrated methods allowing spays in three minutes and neuters in 20 seconds, critical in shelters handling numerous animals daily. Morrow’s sessions also create confidence and camaraderie, offering veterinarians hands-on practice and continuing education credits. Frankie’s Friends sees up to 50 cats daily and assists dogs weekly. Morrow’s goal is to expand training opportunities, ensuring students graduate with practical skills to support shelters nationwide.
