The SPCA Monterey County is investigating a man accused of impersonating a veterinarian in Prunedale and Salinas, engaging in unlicensed Veterinary practices, and causing animal cruelty. The suspect allegedly performed examinations, prescribed medications, and conducted surgeries without a license, leading to at least one dog’s death and others requiring follow-up care.
On November 4, SPCA investigators, supported by the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office and District Attorney’s Office, executed a search warrant on Blackie Road in Prunedale. They found 12 French Bulldogs in small cages without food or water, four of them in a shed lacking sunlight and ventilation. A thin German Shepherd and a caged Doberman were also discovered in poor conditions. The SPCA seized 14 dogs, now in protective custody, and two horses, which were returned to their owners. The investigation is ongoing, and the SPCA urges anyone with information to contact them confidentially to assist in the case.
