U.S. Army Soldiers from the 147th Medical Detachment Veterinary Services Support (MDVSS) play a vital role in supporting the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing by ensuring the health of military working dogs (MWDs), maintaining food safety, and managing public health risks. Their primary mission is to keep MWDs, key assets in security and operational tasks, healthy and mission-ready through regular checkups, emergency care, dental work, vaccinations, and injury recovery. These dogs serve across the U.S. Central Command area, acting as essential force multipliers.
The team also collaborates with pest management to address the presence of feral animals on base, providing care and rehoming them. In addition, the MDVSS oversees food safety by inspecting all incoming food shipments and storage facilities to ensure compliance with Department of Defense standards. Their efforts help prevent foodborne illnesses and secure the food supply. Through comprehensive Veterinary, food, and public health services, the 147th MDVSS ensures operational readiness and safety.
