Tulsa, Oklahoma, is experiencing a rise in rabies cases, prompting officials to remind pet owners to ensure their animals are current on vaccinations. The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) reported that a bat in Tulsa recently tested positive for rabies, following an earlier local canine case. Mayes County is also seeing an uptick, with Oklahoma State University (OSU) confirming two summer cases involving a dog and a cow.
Health authorities warn that rabies, a fatal viral disease spread through animal bites, poses a growing risk if pets remain unvaccinated. Residents are encouraged to schedule Veterinary appointments promptly to protect both animals and people. OSDH provides rabies surveillance data, while OSU offers an interactive map of positive cases across the state, allowing the public to track outbreaks. These resources aim to raise awareness and prevent further spread of the disease by emphasizing timely vaccination and vigilance.
