Utah State University College of Veterinary Medicine has launched its full four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program, marking the milestone with a white coat ceremony for 42 inaugural students. Previously, the university operated under a 2+2 partnership with Washington State University, where students completed the final two years of training in Pullman. With this change, the Class of 2029 will become the first to complete all four years in Utah, including three years of classroom learning and a final year of clinical rotations in community-based practices.
Dean Dr. Dirk K. Vanderwall emphasized that the curriculum is designed to produce practice-ready veterinarians with strong real-world experience. Enrollment is projected to expand to 80 students once a new Veterinary medical education building opens in summer 2026. The Aug. 16 ceremony featured remarks from veterinary leaders Dr. Heloisa Rutigliano, Dr. Boyd Spratling, and Dr. Nate Whiting, welcoming students into the profession.
