A Middle Tennessee man, 37-year-old Joseph McDorman, has been charged after allegedly threatening to blow up the University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital in Knoxville. According to police reports, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 7, when McDorman called the hospital demanding immediate care for his pet spider monkey. Staff informed him the clinic would not open until 7:30 a.m., prompting McDorman to allegedly respond, “If my monkey dies, I am coming up there to blow the whole [expletive] building up.”
The hospital refused service after the threat, and police quickly traced the call back to McDorman through a background check. He now faces charges of harassment and making a threat of mass violence. Authorities have not released further details regarding the monkey’s condition, but the hospital has since reinforced its security protocols. The incident underscores the serious consequences of making violent threats against healthcare and Veterinary facilities.
