John Sampson, a father from Bucks County and a veterinarian, is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a young boy who wandered onto Hersheypark’s monorail track. The frightening moment, captured in a viral video, shows Sampson reaching out his arms to safely pull the child to him as onlookers erupted in cheers. Sampson said he acted instinctively, focusing only on calming the boy and getting him to safety, describing how the child’s relief was palpable once in his arms.
According to Hersheypark, the boy had become separated from his parents and was reported missing before being spotted about 20 minutes later on the inactive monorail. Sampson’s wife recalled the terrifying screams that drew attention to the scene. While Sampson downplays his actions, saying any parent would do the same, the boy’s family personally thanked him. Hersheypark later issued a statement commending the vigilance of its guests.
