Bees pollinate over one-third of the crops humans consume, yet about 40% of colonies collapse annually due to climate change, extreme weather, pesticides, and outdated hive technology. Traditional wooden hives, largely unchanged since 1850, offer little protection against these threats. California startup Beewise aims to change that with the BeeHome, an AI- and robotics-powered hive designed to monitor and care for bees in real time.
Equipped with cameras and sensors, the BeeHome uses AI to detect needs such as food, medicine, and temperature regulation, automatically providing resources to keep colonies healthy. This technology has reduced colony loss by 70% while cutting labor costs for growers. Each BeeHome can manage up to 10 hives now, with future models expected to scale to 40, boosting efficiency and profits. Already deployed in thousands of locations, BeeHomes have attracted $170 million in funding from major investors, positioning Beewise as a leader in modern pollination solutions.
