The Rural Veterinarian Incentive Program (RVIP) encourages veterinarians to practice in designated rural Texas counties by offering up to $180,000 in educational loan repayment or tuition assistance. Participants may receive up to $45,000 annually for four years of full-time service. Eligible applicants include recent graduates or current students of Texas Tech or Texas A&M Veterinary programs, certain Texas high school or undergraduate alumni studying out of state, U.S. citizens or legal residents, and licensed veterinarians who meet loan and service requirements.
Applicants must not already be under other service-related repayment agreements. Selection involves eligibility screening by the Texas Animal Health Commission and scoring by the RVIP Committee. Awardees must sign a promissory note and commit to at least one year of service, with prior rural service potentially counting toward obligations. The 2025 application period runs September 22–November 30, 2025, with selections expected by February 2026.
