The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine’s “International Exhibition on Animals in Art” has returned, showcasing 60 selected works celebrating animals’ roles in human life and the planet. Coordinated by Ginger Guttner, the exhibit features paintings and one 3D paper piece chosen from 302 entries submitted by 150 artists across 30 U.S. states and four countries. Running through Oct. 31 in the Vet Med Library, visitors can view, vote for, and purchase artworks, with 20% of proceeds supporting LSU Vet Med programs, this year benefitting its Artist-in-Residence program.
Since its founding in 1987, the exhibition has provided funds for items like wildlife hospital equipment and library improvements. After a brief hiatus for renovations, it resumed in 2022 as a fall show. Awards include Best of Show, Judge’s Award, People’s Choice, and a feature on the Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association cover, highlighting the creative bond between art, animals, and science.
