Clemson University’s Harvey S. Peeler Jr. College of Veterinary Medicine, South Carolina’s first Veterinary college, has reached a major milestone toward accreditation from the AVMA Council on Education (COE). Following a June 2025 site visit, the AVMA COE issued Clemson a letter of reasonable assurance, allowing the university to recruit students for its inaugural Class of 2030, set to begin in fall 2026. The four-year program will combine classroom, farm, and clinical learning, emphasizing real-world experience through statewide partnerships.
Sixty of 80 seats will be reserved for in-state students, with tuition set at $27,000 for residents. The college’s new campus, funded largely through state support, will include research, teaching, and clinical facilities, including a community clinic open to the public. Founding dean Dr. Steven Marks, formerly of North Carolina State University, said the college’s mission is to train veterinarians who advance animal health, agriculture, and community well-being across South Carolina and beyond.
