Nominations are now open for the 2026 AVMA Excellence Awards, which honor veterinarians and nonveterinarians for significant contributions to animal health, welfare, public service, research, and the Veterinary profession. Award categories span a wide range of achievements, including the AVMA Award for advancing Veterinary medicine organizationally, the Animal Welfare Award, and honors recognizing excellence in canine, feline, and clinical research. Additional awards celebrate global Veterinary service, public service, meritorious community efforts, and lifetime research accomplishments.
Several categories, such as the Bustad Companion Animal Veterinarian of the Year Award and the Steve Dale Excellence in Veterinary Media Award, highlight work strengthening the human-animal bond and elevating public understanding of veterinary roles. Nonveterinarians may be recognized through the Humane Award. Nominations are due January 14, 2026, with details available online. AVMA President Dr. Michael Q. Bailey emphasized the importance of acknowledging colleagues whose dedication advances Veterinary medicine in meaningful ways.
