Oklahoma State University has launched the OSU Agriculture Animal Excellence initiative to strengthen teaching, research, and Extension programs that improve livestock health and sustainability. Central to the effort is the new Beef Center of Excellence, a cross-disciplinary hub uniting experts across the beef supply chain to drive innovation, profitability, and sustainable production. Supported by an advisory board, executive leadership, and endowed chairs in areas such as artificial intelligence, beef economics, and rangeland ecology, the center will expand impactful research and outreach.
The initiative also prioritizes modernizing OSU’s animal teaching and research facilities, which are key to hands-on learning and student recruitment. To address aging infrastructure, OSU established the Animal Unit Endowment Fund to support long-term upgrades. Additionally, the Oklahoma Pork Council donated funds to improve the OSU Swine Research and Education Center, reinforcing OSU’s role as a leader in applied livestock research, workforce development, and consumer confidence across multiple animal industries.
