The Center for Pet Family Well-Being (CPFW) is an interdisciplinary initiative at the University of Tennessee College of Social Work dedicated to improving the health and well-being of both people and their companion animals. The center focuses on strengthening the human–animal bond while promoting equitable access to Veterinary care through a collaborative, systems-based approach that connects Veterinary medicine, public health, social services, and community organizations.
CPFW conducts research to better understand the social, economic, and structural barriers that prevent many families from accessing Veterinary services. These findings are used to guide policy development, community programs, and broader strategies that support both human and animal health. In addition to research, the center provides educational and collaborative opportunities through initiatives such as the One Health Community, the Journal of One Health Systems, and the One Health Systems Summit. By bringing together professionals from multiple fields, CPFW works to build coordinated systems of care that help ensure all pet families have the resources and support they need to thrive.
