Dr. Janice Reis Ciacci Zanella has been appointed director of the University of Nebraska–Lincoln School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, effective August 1, 2026. She succeeds Dr. Scott McVey and brings extensive international experience in Veterinary science, research leadership, and collaboration.
Zanella earned her veterinary degree in Brazil and completed advanced degrees at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln. She has served as an animal virology researcher with Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation, focusing on controlling emerging swine viruses and advancing One Health initiatives. As former general director of Embrapa Swine and Poultry, she led multidisciplinary teams and strengthened partnerships across sectors.
Her global experience includes work with organizations such as the World Organisation for Animal Health and the United Nations. Zanella aims to build on the school’s foundation through collaboration, research, and education.
