Zoetis has expanded the capabilities of its Vetscan OptiCell™ hematology analyzer, becoming the first point-of-care system to offer cellular hemoglobin concentration mean (CHCM), a measurement previously limited to reference laboratories. This update, following the platform’s 2025 launch, also introduces plateletcrit (PCT), increasing the analyzer’s total parameters to 24 and enhancing in-clinic diagnostic capabilities.
CHCM provides a direct, optically measured assessment of hemoglobin concentration in individual red blood cells, offering more reliable insights than traditional calculated values, especially in complex cases like anemia. PCT helps evaluate platelet activity by measuring the proportion of blood volume occupied by platelets. Together, these additions improve clinicians’ ability to diagnose and manage blood-related conditions more accurately and quickly.
Powered by artificial intelligence and viscoelastic focusing technology, the system delivers rapid, precise results while reducing the need for external lab testing. Overall, the upgrade supports faster decision-making, improved patient care, and greater efficiency in Veterinary practices.
