Midwestern University has decided not to move forward with plans for a proposed Chicago College of Veterinary Medicine at its Downers Grove, Illinois campus. After evaluating the resources, infrastructure, clinical capacity, and long-term investment required to support a second Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program, university leaders concluded that their efforts would have a greater impact if focused on strengthening existing academic programs and colleges.
University officials emphasized that the decision followed extensive planning and careful consideration of how best to support the institution’s mission and students. While the Veterinary college proposal will be paused, Midwestern plans to build on the partnerships, knowledge, and infrastructure developed during the planning process.
The university reported strong enrollment growth and increasing interest across its programs and stated that it remains committed to investing in healthcare education, clinical operations, research, and community engagement. The Downers Grove campus will continue to serve as a major center for healthcare education through its established colleges in osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, optometry, graduate studies, and health sciences.
