A month-old pony named Mile has become an unusual resident of a fourth-floor apartment in the coastal Croatian town of Rovinj. His owners, Andjelka Josipovic and Kristijan Jelenic, brought him into their small flat after his mother rejected him at birth and he underwent surgery for a life-threatening infection in neighboring Slovenia. Donations from supporters helped pay for his treatment.
Because Mile requires constant attention, the family feeds him warm milk every two hours, even during the night. According to Josipovic, the pony has learned to wake them when he is hungry. The apartment is already home to the couple, two children, and a dog, but neighbors have accepted the unusual arrangement without complaint.
Mile’s condition is improving: he is eating well, gaining weight, and showing strong determination to recover. The family, who operate a small ranch and children’s play area in Bale, hope he will soon return to a normal life. Despite early fears that he might not survive, Mile’s resilience has given his caretakers reason for optimism.
