Twelve rehabilitated sea turtles, including a loggerhead named Pretty Pretty Princess, were released into the waters off West Dennis Beach in Massachusetts after months of treatment at the New England Aquarium’s Sea Turtle Hospital. The group included five critically endangered Kemp’s ridleys, four endangered loggerheads, and three green sea turtles that were rescued after becoming cold stunned on Cape Cod beaches during late 2025.
Nearly 500 live sea turtles stranded during that period and were first evaluated at Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary before being transferred to the aquarium for specialized care. Many suffered from life threatening conditions such as pneumonia, dehydration, and trauma, with rehabilitation lasting weeks or months. Before release, each turtle received satellite and acoustic tracking tags so researchers can monitor their movements and survival. Although Pretty Pretty Princess briefly turned back toward shore, staff redirected her safely into the ocean, marking another successful milestone in the conservation effort.
