Revival Animal Health has voluntarily recalled multiple Breeder’s Edge and Shelter’s Choice canine milk replacer products after testing found variable Vitamin D levels, including both deficient and excessive amounts. The expanded recall includes Breeder’s Edge Foster Care GM (goat milk) formulas, Foster Care Canine Milk Replacers, and Shelter’s Choice Canine Milk Replacers sold nationwide through retail stores and online.
Excessive Vitamin D can cause vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite, weakness, reduced growth, weight loss, and kidney damage, while prolonged Vitamin D deficiency in puppies may lead to rickets, bone deformities, swollen joints, and lameness. Two cases of rickets have been reported. Consumers are advised to stop feeding the affected products immediately and contact their veterinarian if their dogs show signs of illness. Revival Animal Health is reviewing its manufacturing relationship and has suspended distribution of the milk replacers until product safety can be assured. Consumers may return recalled products for a full refund.
