A new 2026 Lovet Checkup Report highlights the growing financial challenges facing pet owners despite their strong commitment to their animals. The survey found that 91 percent of pet owners would be willing to go into debt to save their pet’s life, yet 46 percent delayed or skipped Veterinary care during the past year because of rising costs. Cost was the most common barrier to care, followed by uncertainty about whether a Veterinary visit was necessary, difficulty obtaining appointments, and scheduling conflicts.
The report also found that 80 percent of pet owners research their pet’s symptoms online before seeking Veterinary care, and 25 percent later regretted delaying treatment after relying on online or artificial intelligence generated information. Additionally, 37 percent used credit or incurred debt to pay Veterinary bills, while an equal percentage reduced household spending to cover pet care costs. The findings underscore the need for affordable payment options, accessible Veterinary services, and improved guidance for pet owners making healthcare decisions.
