The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) conducted a survey of 1000 pet owners to understand their perspectives on Veterinary care in the U.S. Key findings include 88% believing that a physical examination by a veterinarian in person leads to the best care, and 79% prefer veterinarian oversight for their pet’s care. Pet owners prioritize their pet’s health and safety (76%) and prefer meeting a veterinarian in person before allowing them to care for their pet (72%).
In addition, 80% expect personable and friendly veterinarians, and 79% want a licensed veterinarian in charge of their pet’s care. The survey also revealed that 60% of pet owners waited three days or less to see a veterinarian, and 78% received emergency care within 2 hours. Rena Carlson, AVMA president, emphasizes the importance of in-person visits for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
