Mars Petcare US has recalled two lots of Pedigree High Protein Chopped Chicken & Duck Flavor canned dog food after discovering the products may contain metal and plastic fragments that could pose choking, laceration, or gastrointestinal injury risks to dogs. According to the company, the affected cans had failed internal quality inspections and were sent to a third-party vendor for destruction but were allegedly fraudulently diverted and sold in the U.S. marketplace instead of being destroyed.
The recall applies only to 13.2-ounce cans with lot codes 613C3KKCFC and 613C1KKCFC; no other Pedigree or Mars Petcare products are affected. As of the recall announcement, no illnesses or injuries had been reported. Pet owners are urged not to feed the recalled food and should contact Pedigree Consumer Care for a replacement. Anyone concerned about a dog that consumed the product should consult their veterinarian promptly.
