Elanco Animal Health has completed a 25,000-square-foot expansion of its manufacturing facility in Elwood, Kansas, significantly increasing the company’s capacity to produce monoclonal antibody therapies. The $120 million project expands production capacity more than fourfold and adds upstream and downstream processing equipment, a pilot plant, quality control laboratory, and support spaces. Elanco plans another $30 million investment through 2028, including additional warehousing, bringing its total investment to $150 million.
The Elwood facility manufactures Befrena, Elanco’s new treatment for canine allergic and atopic dermatitis, and Trutect, the first approved therapeutic solution for canine parvovirus. Demand for Befrena has been twice Elanco’s expectations, prompting the company to increase capacity with the goal of reaching unconstrained supply in early 2027. Elanco says the expansion will also support its pipeline of next-generation biologics as pet owners increasingly prioritize advanced health and wellness treatments for their animals.
