The Swine Health Information Center will integrate into the National Pork Board by the end of 2026 following approval from both organizations’ producer-led boards. The transition is intended to preserve SHIC’s capabilities for identifying and responding to emerging swine disease threats while aligning them more closely with broader industry health priorities.
SHIC’s existing work in disease surveillance, monitoring, reporting, research, and producer support will continue throughout the transition. Maintaining services for pork producers, veterinarians, researchers, and industry organizations is a priority.
The integration will align SHIC’s expertise, research investments, and resources with the National Swine Health Strategy, a long-term framework for protecting the U.S. swine herd. Industry leaders say greater coordination can focus producer investments, strengthen collaboration, and translate research into practical on-farm tools. The strategy emphasizes improved prevention, preparedness, and response to endemic, emerging, and foreign animal diseases while strengthening coordination across the U.S. pork industry.
