The Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation has announced a $250 million, five-year initiative designed to expand access to Veterinary care for family pets across the United States. Called Duffield Big Bet for Pets, the initiative represents one of the largest private philanthropic commitments supporting nonprofit community Veterinary care.
The Foundation estimates that approximately 50 million dogs and cats face barriers to Veterinary services, largely because of financial constraints. Big Bet for Pets will support community organizations providing care, fund research and strategies addressing access challenges, and raise awareness of organizations serving pets in need.
The initiative begins with two funding opportunities. Duffield Boost Grants will distribute $2.5 million through 250 grants of $10,000 to nonprofit community Veterinary care providers. Expanding Access Grants will provide a $10 million pool for larger, multiyear grants to established nonprofit Veterinary clinics seeking to increase capacity.
Additional investments and grant opportunities are planned during the next five years.
