Artificial intelligence use among Veterinary professionals has more than doubled since 2024, according to a 2026 study from Digitail and the American Animal Hospital Association. Based on responses from 1,730 professionals in the United States and Canada, the study found AI adoption reached 83.7%, compared with 39.2% in 2024.
Clinical documentation is the most common application, used by 62.8% of AI users. However, 65.2% of practices introduced AI without significantly changing workflows, while nearly half lack an AI strategy or designated leader.
Practices with mature approaches to AI, including defined strategies, governance, and workflow integration, reported six times the business outcomes of practices with the lowest maturity levels. Meanwhile, concerns are shifting as adoption grows. Fear of AI-related job displacement declined from 37.2% to 20%, while concerns about data security and insufficient training increased. Nearly 80% of respondents expect AI to become part of most Veterinary clinic workflows within five years.
