South Jersey dog named Ricky was saved after veterinarians discovered a severe stomach blockage caused by ingesting multiple foreign objects. The nearly 10-year old hound mix showed symptoms including lethargy and loss of appetite, prompting concern from his owner. After an initial veterinary visit revealed a blockage, Ricky was taken to Mount Laurel Animal Hospital for emergency surgery. During the procedure, veterinarians removed at least six socks, pieces of fabric, and part of a tote bag from his stomach.
Doctors noted that while the case was surprising, similar incidents are not uncommon. Veterinarians emphasized that key warning signs of such blockages include vomiting, reduced appetite, and low energy. Following surgery and recovery, Ricky returned to normal health. His owner now closely monitors what the dog can access and eat. The case serves as a reminder for pet owners to watch for behavioral changes and prevent pets from ingesting non food items.
