Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) and Japan’s Mitsubishi Corp. have signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding to explore a strategic alliance focused on the agriculture value chain. The collaboration aims to strengthen global food and agriculture supply chains in response to challenges such as population growth, economic shifts, and rising demand for sustainable products. ADM, a major U.S.-based agribusiness, processes crops into food, animal feed, and biofuels, with a portfolio including alternative proteins, edible oils, and microbiome solutions.
Mitsubishi’s food division spans sourcing, processing, distribution, and consumer brands, covering seafood, meat, grains, and food ingredients. Despite a decline in ADM’s 2024 revenue ($85.5bn) and profit, the company stresses the need for cross-industry partnerships to address food security and sustainability. Both firms hope their combined capabilities will unlock opportunities, from building a robust biofuel supply chain to enhancing global food system resilience. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to innovation and long-term global food solutions.
