Dr. Tim Miller-Morgan, associate attending veterinarian for aquatics at Oregon State University, oversees the health and welfare of thousands of fish and aquatic animals used in research across campus. Appointed in 2024, his role supports researchers by addressing animal health issues, managing aquatic systems, and advising on disease prevention and treatment. With nearly 40 years of experience in aquatic animal care, Miller-Morgan leads a team of aquarists assisting everyone from students to professors.
His work is crucial for ensuring both ethical treatment of animals and reliable research outcomes. Based at the Hatfield Marine Science Center, he deals with challenges like parasite control in bay-sourced water systems and also cares for invertebrates like octopuses, for which he co-developed a widely adopted welfare matrix. Beyond OSU, he co-founded major Veterinary associations and education programs focused on aquatic medicine. His mission: advance care and understanding in a still-evolving field. “It’s something different every day,” he says.
