The Arkansas State University System board of trustees has approved a $30.6 million bond issue to fund the construction of the College of Veterinary Medicine in Jonesboro, slated to open in 2026. This will be Arkansas’ first public Veterinary school, with Dr. Heidi E. Cox Banse serving as its founding dean.
The $33.2 million project will be financed through taxable Student Fee Revenue Bonds and institutional reserve funds. Future Veterinary student tuition and fees will support the debt service, ensuring financial sustainability. The American Veterinary Medical Association’s Council on Education recently assessed the university’s progress on facilities, policies, and personnel, endorsing its advancement. With nearly 15,000 students enrolled, Arkansas State aims to address a growing need for Veterinary education and services in the region. This initiative marks a significant step for Veterinary education in Arkansas, creating new opportunities for students and advancing the state’s capacity for animal healthcare.
