Feline Veterinary visits continue to increase despite an overall decline in U.S. Veterinary clinical visits, according to a new CATalyst Council report. During the third quarter of 2026, feline clinical visits rose 2.7%, while canine visits declined 3.3% and overall visits fell 1.9%.
Feline visits have increased for 12 consecutive quarters, raising cats’ share of companion animal clinical visits from 21% in 2023 to 24% in 2026. Meanwhile, kitten visits remain approximately 11% above pre-pandemic levels, while puppy visits are projected to fall 44% below their 2018–2019 baseline.
Despite representing 46% of household cats and dogs, cats account for a disproportionately small share of Veterinary visits, with only about one-third receiving traditional Veterinary care annually.
CATalyst Council emphasizes that Veterinary practices have opportunities to strengthen relationships with feline owners, overcome barriers to care, and convert initial kitten appointments into lifelong Veterinary care through improved client engagement and retention strategies.
