Elanco Animal Health has completed a 25,000-square-foot expansion of its Elwood, Kansas, manufacturing facility, significantly increasing its capacity to produce monoclonal antibody therapies for pets. The $120 million project more than quadruples production capacity and adds upstream and downstream processing equipment, a pilot plant for process development and clinical materials, a quality control laboratory, and additional support space.
The facility manufactures Elanco’s monoclonal antibody products, including Befrena, an anti-IL-31 injection for canine allergic and atopic dermatitis, and Trutect, the first approved therapeutic solution for canine parvovirus. Demand for Befrena has been twice Elanco’s expectations, with the company anticipating unconstrained supply by early 2027. Elanco plans another $30 million investment through 2028 for additional warehousing, bringing its total investment to $150 million. The expansion is designed to support Elanco’s growing biologics pipeline and meet increasing veterinarian and pet owner demand for advanced therapies.
