After nearly 50 years of service in Northeast BaltimoreErdman Animal Hospital has announced it will close its doors, marking the end of a long-standing community institution. Owner Dr. Lance P. Keil shared the news in a message to clients, explaining that the growing challenges of operating a small, independent Veterinary practice had become overwhelming. Keil cited major shifts in the Veterinary industry, including increased corporate ownership and a declining number of veterinarians interested in owning private practices. Despite listing the hospital for sale with a broker for three years, he was unable to find a buyer. At 65, Keil said continuing to manage the business alone was no longer sustainable.
Known for providing affordable and compassionate care, the hospital has been a trusted resource for generations of pet owners since opening in 1957. Its closure reflects broader industry trends and leaves a noticeable gap in accessible, community-based Veterinary care in the area.
