Gen Z’s growing influence as pet owners is reshaping the pet health experience around technology, continuous access, and greater confidence in decision making. Pet ownership among Gen Z grew nearly 44% from 2023 to 2024, and younger owners increasingly use social media, symptom checkers, AI chat tools, telehealth, digital records, and online consultations to research concerns before or between Veterinary visits.
Rather than replacing veterinarians, these tools are becoming part of an “always-on” care model that complements in-person treatment. Younger pet owners reportedly use an average of 3.6 digital health tools, reflecting demand for guidance that reduces emotional, logistical, and financial uncertainty. The article argues that successful pet health technology should do more than provide information. It should help owners understand what to do next, including when professional Veterinary care is necessary. As Gen Z’s influence grows, providers will need connected digital experiences that improve clarity, preparedness, engagement, and collaboration with Veterinary teams.
