Second Chance Animal Services’ surgical centers are set to receive a $1.1 million grant from PetSmart Charities, aimed at enhancing access to Veterinary care. The grant, funded by PetSmart customers’ donations online and in-store, will be utilized for equipment, hiring more vets, advanced training, and addressing the rising costs of Veterinary care. Sheryl Blancato, CEO of Second Chance, emphasizes the grant’s specificity, supporting critical needs in underserved areas.

With up to 50% of families struggling to afford standard Veterinary care, the grant aims to make such care more affordable, preventing pet surrenders to shelters. Over three years, the funding will enable Second Chance to expand services, purchase equipment, and provide essential training, addressing the overwhelming demand for Veterinary care. The grant is part of PetSmart Charities’ $100 million commitment over five years to support accessible Veterinary care in local communities.
